(300 words) Fedor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky (1821-1881) was not only the greatest writer, but also a man who possessed exorbitant pride. The writer always defended his convictions, did not tolerate the oppression of freedom and will. Probably, the author devoted his whole life to the search for the eternal truth, which would leave the human soul imperishable, providing it with spiritual independence. Dostoevsky considered this eternal truth to be God himself, therefore, in many of his works Fedor Mikhailovich put the idea that renunciation of faith would lead mankind to inevitable death.
This belief was also reflected in the novel Crime and Punishment, which tells of one of the seven deadly sins - pride. It is the all-consuming pride that destroys the main character of the novel - Rodion Romanovich Raskolnikov. The feeling of complete superiority of his personality over others alienated Rodion from faith in God. Pride, which grew into pride, deprived him of humanity, became a source of torment. It is difficult to understand the personality of the hero and the motives of his actions. Yes, he is poor. He does not have the means to pay for the room. Perhaps he is depressed by the position of his mother and sister. No, not these problems aroused arrogance in him. The very course of life humiliates him, and wounded pride is looking for its place: "She is a trembling creature or has the right." But a man who is proud of himself as a "creature" will not call. This characteristic will be adorned precisely by someone who lacks self-affirmation, for whom craving for it becomes an obsession. Therefore, Raskolnikov is fond of the theory of "superman." At the same time, his pride grew, and his thoughts turned into actions. He decides to kill the old percent-woman. After all, he is a “superman”, it is up to him to decide who is worthy of life. Alena Ivanovna, in his opinion, is a “trembling creature,” which by its existence oppresses other people. Her death will bring "benefit" to society. Rodion killed. But what brought him this murder? Satisfying Pride? Not. He did not become any Napoleon. The failure of the idea did not lead the hero to remorse. He only realized that the theory was not true.
Since he cannot repent, he must humble himself and admit that there is no "superman", there is God. This is the way to get rid of pride.
