(376 words) In the novel by F.M. Dostoevsky's "Crime and Punishment" the theme of the humiliated and offended is revealed by the example of the Marmeladov family. The author shows the reader why all members of the family suffer, and how they fight or are inactive in this situation.
It all started with the marriage of Marmeladov and Ekaterina Ivanovna, their union was initially not a good idea: both were poor, both with children in their arms, but it was poverty that brought these people together. The consequences were terribly bad: the husband drinks all the money, the wife is sick with tuberculosis, the children suffer from hunger. Marmeladov himself said of his drunkenness: "I drink, because I want to suffer purely." However, such behavior is unacceptable for the husband and father, because he is responsible for his relatives, and internal experiences are not a reason to condemn loved ones to death. The mother of the family - Ekaterina Ivanovna - spent all her energy on raising and caring for children. Being a noble special from birth, the woman did not eat up or fill up once again, but she did everything possible so that her offspring did not feel the poverty surrounding them. Even when she needed medicine, she put the welfare of the children in the first place, and bought them food. Sonya is the native daughter of Marmeladov. She did all her conscious life to help her family cope with poverty. However, at one point, the circumstances forced the girl to make a great sacrifice: she went to the panel. The heroine realized in what life situation she found herself with her family, and could not help in any other way, because then the girl could not feed so many people with honest work.
Adversity does not end there - the father of the family dies. From that moment, Ekaterina Ivanovna was morally defeated, because now all the family hardships fell on her fragile female shoulders. The woman’s condition is only getting worse, she’s going crazy: she beats children, teaches them to sing and dance, makes some awkward costumes. The unfortunate person makes them perform on the street: she doesn’t care what people think, that the children are afraid of her, she is obsessed with the idea of making money. At one point, the kids just run away, in pursuit of them, Ekaterina Ivanovna falls, her agony begins. Before her death, the woman refused the priest: “God must forgive already ... He himself knows how I suffered!”
F.M. Dostoevsky revealed the tragedy that affected the Marmeladov family in all colors. The author shows that the cause of their suffering was not only social status, but also the very attitude of people towards life, therefore, the problem is psychological in nature. Using the example of the Marmeladov family, the writer shows what life trap a person can drive himself into.
