The main character of the novel “Asya” by Ivan Turgenev is a very unusual young girl whom the narrator met during her trip to Europe in the company of her brother. The hero noticed first of all the unusualness in her behavior, noted how unpredictable and mysterious it is. He looks at her face and as if reads every emotion, every thought:
“She did not sit still for a moment ... it seemed that she was laughing not at what she heard, but at the various thoughts that came to her mind. Her big eyes looked boldly, but sometimes ... her eyes became deep and tender. "
The narrator is interested in Asya's behavior, she evokes strong feelings in him, her mystery and trepidation fascinate him. Her brother speaks generally of her well, notes her kind heart, but notices that her head is “poor”, and also says that she is “a little strange”, but notices that in order to judge the heroine, get to know her story first.
N.N. argues that in a general sense, the history of each person is the key to understanding his internal state, from which external behavior follows. And he learns the story of Asi, which is full of contradictions in itself. As it turned out, the girl is the illegitimate daughter of a nobleman and a maid, a servant in a manor house. Because of this situation, the girl from an early age was not accepted in any society, she bore a heavy imprint, in which she was essentially not at fault. Her future was very vague. A few years later, her father, the master, becomes a widower and wants to marry her mother, but she refuses him. When Asya was about 9 years old, her mother dies and her father takes her to live in his rich house, officially recognizing her as his daughter and giving her a name. From a modest home and a poor life, she falls into lordly mansions and luxury, receives unlimited freedom, becomes the “main person in the house”. However, soon the arrogance leaves her when she realizes that the seal of the illegitimate daughter will haunt her all her life, and this status has not changed in any way. He feels shame because of his origin, wants an ordinary life, like other young ladies, but everywhere she is pointed to her “impurity”. She develops serious psychological problems, a personality disorder appears, this is how the author describes her condition: "self-esteem developed in her greatly, simplicity disappeared." This remains to affect her in her teens, and when she goes to study at a boarding school, the team does not accept her, so her brother takes her from there.
In addition to strong internal discord, Asa has great internal forces, her soul is full of bright, creative impulses, and she is trying to find a way out for them, to build her own picture of the world in which she could find application. She seeks love and wants to find it in order to devote herself to this feeling and spend her whole life on it. She is looking, but her search is not simple, and not so fast.
Asi’s tragic and sad story is similar in general to the stories of all people. We ourselves do not notice how the circumstances and events of our lives, sometimes beyond our control, overcome us and crush us with a load of restrictions. We feel locked in conventions that were not built by us, and not by our will, but even against it. But each person is given only those difficulties with which he can cope, there are no obstacles to happiness that could not be broken. It is necessary to search, try, go further and further along your path. That is exactly what Asya was - unbending in its principles, seeking, intelligent and able to love. She did not agree to compromise and stay with that person who was not worthy of her pure and high feeling, her love.
