Student
The narration is conducted on behalf of the Student. He says that Teacher, exercising his feelings, acquired an extraordinary ability to simultaneously hear, see, touch and think; he played with forces and phenomena, "the stars were people to him, people were stars." The Apprentice did not know how to understand him.
Nature
In ancient times, people were one with nature and could not distinguish themselves from it. Therefore, the history of the world is expounded by people as the history of mankind, human relations are seen everywhere in nature. Scientists and poets tried to know nature, but if a poet does it gently, organically, by contemplation, then the natural scientist tries to destroy nature, like a body, with a surgical instrument in order to study its interior.
Nature is the mirror of us. He who sees the mill of death in her sees enemies everywhere. Those who struggle with it try to liken it to theirs, greedy, practical. God sees her as divine. Those who want to comprehend nature should develop their moral sense, learn to observe and see. And he will become a true master of nature.
A childhood friend approached the Apprentice. Laughing, he said that it was a false path. “Lonely joy and desire run, but without him, how will nature help you?” With love, a person finds a new world. A friend tells him a fairy tale parable about the beautiful young man Hyacinth, whom the girl Rosvetok fell in love with. Once Hyacinth met a wanderer, and he told him about strange foreign countries and people, and Hyacinth became pensive and sad. He decided to go to foreign lands, traveled a lot, wandered, and when he got to the sacred temple of the goddess Isis, where the truth was to be revealed to him, and appeared before the heavenly maiden, lifting her blanket, he saw the face of Rosvetik and realized that the main truth was love .
Pupils go to the temple. Around conversations, laughter. Some complained about the lost ancient majestic life in the bosom of nature, others played, others stood calmly and watched. Several wanderers entered the hall. They said that a person should keep the external and internal world in a state of harmony, not knowing the laws of his body, a person cannot know the structure of the world. Only the greatest people are capable of this, while the rest have reduced the surrounding nature to the level of a machine.
One of the students replied that only poets can feel that there is nature to people. The greatest wealth is fantasy: having it is able to revive, create, make everything beautiful. And forests and stones, all nature submit to creativity.
Travelers, thinking, said that the primary function of man is creative contemplation, this is the primordial state of mankind. It is necessary to be one with nature in order to understand it. There are those who create, and there are those who observe the greatness of the world. Love is a fusion, a dissolution in nature. Few people comprehended the secret of being, but nothing could be better than this, the Golden Age was a time of dissolution in nature and love.
Travelers told that they want to find traces of the dead pranarod, people of the Golden Age, whose degenerate remnants represent modern humanity. For this, they went to Sais and asked to spend a day in the temple.
The teacher said that a person can become involved in the secrets of nature only if he instills in himself an inner sense of unity with it.
On this story breaks off.
Novalis gives several additions to the story. The fourth addendum speaks of Jesus, of "longing for the Virgin." The sixth appendix connects Christianity with ancient beliefs. Truth multiplies, passing from the realm of love to the realm of mysticism. Isis and her veil acquire the role of a symbol, the essence of which is becoming more and more complicated and goes beyond the plot. The symbolism of romanticism is one of the characteristic features, the story itself takes on a metaphorical meaning.
